WM: What do you feel makes a successful portrait? NM: A connection between the viewer and the people in the photograph. If the photographer can add his or her own distinctive style that usually makes the photograph more memorable or successful. WM: What do you feel makes a successful portrait? WM: Why do you think people like to look at pictures of people? NM: I think it’s a basic human trait, most people are interested in other people and a portrait is a way to explore that curiosity — the places we live, our cultural backgrounds, the clothes we wear, our family ties.
